2/25/2014 Lena Trotochaud accepts postdoctoral position at Berkeley working with Prof. Alexis Bell as part of the Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis after her highly successful PhD work in the Boettcher lab.  Her thesis defense is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Monday, March 17th in Klamath 107. We will miss Lena tremendously!

2/22/13 Boettcher Lab welcomes new post-doctoral researcher Sangeun Chun. Welcome to Oregon, Sangeun!!! Sangeun will be leading the UO team in collaboration with OSU and UCSB on the newly funded arpa-e project to study and develop new classes of redox supercapacitors for electrical energy storage.

10/24/12 GaAs vapor transport project selected for funding negotiation through DOE Sunshot program with Molecular Foundry collaborator Dr. Shaul Aloni. Thanks to Andy Ritenour for assistance in preparing the grant application.

9/24/12 Shannon is the first ever invited speaker in the up-and-coming Materials Science Department of University of Wisconsin Eau Claire.

9/19/12 Lena’s paper on thin film oxygen evolution electrocatalysts is accepted for publication as an article in the Journal of the American Chemical Society.

9/13/12 Shannon organizes and chairs the annual Materials Science Institute Conference. Lena Trotochaud wins first place in the poster competition, judged by the invited outside speakers and industry attendees!

9/4/12 Adam Smith wins NSF GK-12 fellowship for the 2012-2013 academic year. Congratulations Adam!!!

8/30/12 Shannon presents invited 3-hr Tutorial Lecture on “Semiconductor Photoelectrochemistry and Photocatalysis” at the International Center for Materials Research Summer School on Inorganic Materials for Energy Conversion and Storage at UC Santa Barbara (link). 8/28/12 Welcome Athavan Nadarjah, a new postdoc joining the Center for Sustainable Materials Chemistry and the Boettcher group. Athavan did is PhD work at Portland State University in Physics and will work with the Electronic and Ionic Thin Films sub-group of the CSMC.

8/15/12 We are pleased to announce the arrival of the Boettcher Baby – Elena Marie! Congratulations Shannon and Mel!!!

6/13/12 Department of Energy, Basic Energy Science grant entitled “Semiconductor-Electrocatalyst Contacts: Theory, Experiment, and Applications to Solar Water Photoelectrolysis”  is selected for funding! Thanks to Fuding for his help in preparing the grant application.

6/6/12 Andy Ritenour presents his GaAs research at the IEEE Photovoltaics Specialists conference in Austin Texas and is nominated for a poster award. Good job Andy! IEEE paper forthcoming.

12/16/11 Postdoctoral Scholar Dr. Fuding Lin joins the Boettcher group. Fuding received his PhD in Physics from the University of Oregon in 2009 working with Prof. Mark Lonergan studying charge transport in mixed ionic-electronic systems. Since then he has been the technical director for the new SuNRISE Photovoltaic Lab at University of Oregon. Fuding will be leading the project “Semiconductor-electrocatalyst contacts: theory, experiment, and applications to solar water photoelectrolysis“. Welcome Fuding!

12/2/11 Andy’s first paper on CSVT GaAs photoelectrochemistry is accepted for publication in ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces. Congratulations Andy!!!

11/29/11 Shannon presents at MRS Fall Conference in Advanced Materials for Solar-Fuel Generation session.

10/11/11 Boettcher group / UO outreach partnership with the Springfield School district “Mad Duck Science Friday’s” that provides middle and high school students with hands-on science education on district furlough days is covered in the local paper, Springfield Times.  (Article here) Outreach activities also highlighted on local public radio station during NPR morning news! 10/10/11 Lena’s first (the Boettcher group’s first) manuscript is accepted for publication in Chemistry of Materials. Congratulations Lena!!!

9/16/11 Boettcher group undergraduate researcher Ben Nail wins 1st place (and $250!) in the poster competition at the PNW American Vacuum Society Meeting with his poster on tungsten oxide nanostructures. James Ranney takes 2nd place for his research on electrocatalysis. Congratulations to Ben and James for winning the top two awards!

6/21/11 Undergraduates Tre Buchanan (physics, UO) and Solly Levinrad (ChemE, OSU) join the group for the summer! Welcome! Tre is working with graduate student mentor Adam Smith and fellow undergraduate Ben Nail (McNair Scholar) to design and understand nanostructured oxides for water splitting. Solly is teaming with fellow undergrad Richard Cramer (Chemistry/Physics UO) and mentor Andy Ritenour to design new types of III-V photoelectrodes.
