Postdoctoral Scholar Search

Searching for new joint postdoctoral fellows across the Kempler and Boettcher laboratories in the Oregon Center for Electrochemistry.

The Oregon Center for Electrochemistry is search for new postdoctoral fellows to tackling fundamental to applied challenges in deep decarbonization (see for example https://kempler.uoregon.edu/ and https://boettcher.uoregon.edu/). Specific new project areas include both aspects of controlling and understanding solid/solid electrochemical transformations for low carbon metal refining as well as electrode, separator, and system design and understanding for advanced alkaline electrolysis. Postdoctoral fellows are supported in a intellectually diverse and rigorous environment while receiving broad mentoring toward their own career goals.

The ideal candidate will have a background in chemistry, engineering, or physics, and a strong record of success from their PhD work in terms of publications and acquired skills. The candidate should be highly motivated and able to effectively work independently as well as within the team to generate and communicate research results of the highest quality.

The ideal candidate will also aggressively pursue independent fellowship funding for their postdoctoral appointment to the extent to which they are eligible (e.g. Marie Curie, DFG, Fulbright, Humboldt, NRF, CSC, etc.). They will lead manuscript writing and assist with proposal applications. Specific experience in electrochemical systems is not essential, though is valuable.

To be considered, please send as a single pdf to Prof. Kempler and Prof. Boettcher at pkempler@uoregon.edu and swb@uoregon.edu:

– a cover letter describing your interest in the position and professional aspirations

– a current curriculum vitae

– reprints of three publications representative of your best work

– names and email addresses of three senior researchers/faculty that are willing to serve as references

The University of Oregon is located in Eugene at the southern edge of the Willamette valley. It is surrounded by lush forests, vineyards, and snow-capped mountains, and is near the rugged Oregon coastline. Oregon is known for mild wet winters and pleasantly dry, warm summers, with excellent outdoor recreation as well as local food and drink. The cost of living is low compared to larger West-coast cities.

Postdoctoral researcher positions at the University of Oregon receive outstanding state of Oregon benefits (including health and vision insurance), and pay on the NIH scale (~53k/y for starting postdoctoral scholars).
